HABIBTI jumps from No. 35 to No. 1 after its deluxe release, pushing Drake past Future and the Temptations while replacing his own album ICEMAN at the top.

Eighteen No. 1 Albums Is a Record, Not an Opinion

Drake has earned a place in Billboard history that cannot be dismissed by arguments about popularity, rivalry or personal taste. Crazy TV believes his 18th No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart deserves recognition because the achievement is measurable, historically significant and separate from the debate over who makes the greatest music.

According to Billboard, HABIBTI reached No. 1 on the chart dated October 17, 2026, giving Drake sole possession of the all time record.

He previously shared the lead with Future and the Temptations, who each have 17 chart topping albums.

Now Drake stands alone.

That does not automatically make him the greatest rapper in history.

It makes him the artist with the most No. 1 albums on this specific Billboard ranking.

The difference matters. A credible record should be celebrated for exactly what it proves.

The Deluxe Release Changed the Album's Position

Billboard reports that HABIBTI climbed from No. 35 to No. 1 following the October 2 release of HABIBTI (FOMO).

The deluxe edition added four tracks to the original 11 song album: Solar Eclipse, featuring Don Toliver, Quebec, Cold Shoulder, featuring Don Toliver and Yebba, and Classic Pt 2.

During the October 2 through October 8 tracking period, the album earned 71,000 equivalent album units in the United States, according to Luminate data cited by Billboard.

That represented a 506 percent increase from the previous week.

Billboard combines all versions of an album for chart tracking.

Crazy TV believes that detail is essential to understanding the achievement.

The deluxe edition did not create an entirely separate album entry. Its activity contributed to the existing HABIBTI title.

That distinction explains how an album that had fallen to No. 35 returned to the summit.

It also shows why chart methodology belongs in the story rather than being treated as fine print.

The Temptations Give This Record Its Historical Weight

The significance of Drake's achievement becomes clearer when the full chart history is considered.

Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums ranking began in January 1965.

The Temptations first established the record for most No. 1 albums in July 1966, when Gettin' Ready became their third chart leader.

They continued extending that record, eventually reaching 17 No. 1 albums with A Song for You in May 1975.

Future later matched their total.

Drake has now surpassed both.

For Crazy TV, this is what makes the milestone larger than a contemporary streaming statistic.

The leaderboard connects different generations of Black music and hip hop through a chart with more than six decades of history.

But the comparison requires context.

The Temptations built their record during a different era of music distribution, consumption and chart measurement.

Drake's achievement belongs to a period in which streaming and album equivalent units help determine rankings.

Those differences do not invalidate either accomplishment.

They explain why historical comparisons should identify the metric instead of pretending every era operated under identical conditions.

The Leaderboard Establishes the Scale

Billboard's updated ranking places Drake at 18 No. 1 albums, followed by Future and the Temptations with 17 each.

JAY-Z follows with 14, while Ye has 13.

These are not subjective placements chosen by critics.

They are totals drawn from Billboard's chart history.

Crazy TV believes those numbers deserve to be preserved accurately because they establish a specific form of commercial achievement.

A No. 1 album reflects performance within a defined chart system.

It does not measure every dimension of artistic influence, lyrical ability or cultural importance.

Fans can reasonably disagree about which artist has the strongest catalog.

They cannot change the published totals simply because they prefer another performer.

The crown in this category belongs to Drake.

The broader argument about greatness remains open.

Drake Replaced Himself at the Top

One of the most revealing details in Billboard's report is that HABIBTI displaced another Drake album.

When HABIBTI reached No. 1, it replaced ICEMAN, which had been leading the chart.

Billboard identified this as the first time an artist had replaced themselves at No. 1 on this ranking since Future and Metro Boomin achieved the same feat in May 2024.

The detail adds another dimension to Drake's record.

Two titles from his own catalog occupied successive weeks at the top.

For Crazy TV, that demonstrates the extent of his chart presence during this period without requiring speculation about audience motives.

The published rankings already establish the result.

The Record Stands Even When the Debate Continues

Drake's 18th No. 1 is a major chart achievement. The deluxe edition's impact, the 71,000 equivalent units and the historical leaderboard explain how it happened and why it matters.

Crazy TV's position is that documented success should receive its full recognition without being exaggerated into a verdict on artistic greatness. Drake now owns this Billboard record outright. The Temptations' history remains essential to understanding it, Future's 17 No. 1s remain intact, and the next artist to challenge the mark will have to earn that position through the same published ranking.

Does Drake's record of 18 No. 1 R&B/Hip-Hop albums strengthen his case as hip hop's greatest artist, or should chart success and artistic greatness be judged separately?

Culture. On record.
